Like A Kid Waiting For Christmas…
Like a Kid Waiting for Christmas Day
Do you remember what it felt like to be a kid waiting for Christmas morning?
You had already seen the gifts under the tree.
Of course, you had picked them up.
Shaken them.
Turned them over in your hands.
Maybe even studied the wrapping paper, trying to figure out what could possibly be inside.
You would guess.
Change your mind.
Guess again.
And somehow, waiting made it all feel even more exciting!!!!
There are other kinds of waiting that feel that way too.
Like counting down the days until one of the closest friends you have ever had is coming to visit — someone you haven’t seen in far too long.
You know the day is coming.
You keep counting.
Five more days.
Three more days.
Tomorrow.
Almost here.
And the closer it gets, the harder it is to contain the excitement.
That’s what anticipation feels like.
It’s knowing something wonderful is getting closer, even though you can’t quite touch it yet!
And then Christmas Eve finally comes.
You’re lying there trying to sleep, but how could you possibly sleep?!?
Because by now, the big guy has eaten the last cookie…..
The milk is gone.
He’s made his way back up the chimney.
The gifts are underneath the tree.
And all that’s left to do is wait for morning.
Maybe life gives us Christmas mornings too.
Times when something new is sitting just ahead of us.
We don’t know exactly what it will look like.
We don’t know everything that’s wrapped up inside.
But we can feel it coming.
And maybe that’s one of the sweetest places we can ever find ourselves —
excited about what might be waiting for us.
Hopeful.
Curious.
Almost impatient.
Like a kid waiting for Christmas Day.
Something to Think About…..
So, when was the last time you went under the tree, picked up the gift life had placed there for you, and — with all that wonderful anticipation — gave it a little shake, trying to guess what might be inside?
Maybe you don’t have to know yet.
Maybe part of the magic is simply knowing there is still something waiting for you to unwrap…..
With all my heart,
